How To Drive More Visitors to Your Website with Content Marketing
If you’ve been in the digital marketing community for long, you’ve likely heard ‘content is king’. And that makes sense because when done correctly content marketing is an excellent strategy. It can generate about three times as many leads AND costs up to 62% less than traditional marketing!
If you want to drive more traffic to your website (and I know you do…), then this is the one single thing that you need to be doing. Content marketing is a crucial aspect of your marketing is non-negotiable. It has huge potential for increasing your viewers, your engagement, and your authority.
What is Content Marketing?
With content marketing you use blogs, newsletters, social posts, videos and infographics to get the attention of your ideal client.
Content marketing flips the script on traditional marketing. Instead of screaming at your audience through a bullhorn, content marketing turns your business into a magnet that attracts customers to your doorstep.
Provide value upfront
The internet is built on content. The time you spend online will likely be either watching videos or reading. Both of these are examples of content consumption.
To find that content to read or watch, you probably searched in Google for a related phrase or term. Google will then matched your search query to content that it had indexed.
Why You Need to Implement Content Marketing
By regularly adding high-quality content to your website you achieve a number of things:
- You provide free value for your readers
- You show your knowledge and expertise in your niche and get seen as an expert
- You increase awareness and trust in your brand exponentially
- You give Google a way to understand what your site is about
- You create more pages for your site, each of which can then be a potential entry point to your site and your brand
- You can share this new piece of content on social media
- You increase chances of your content being shared by your readers, giving you free exposure and free links.
How To Write an Engaging Blog Post
A key ingredient to your content marketing success is to write a high quantity of blog articles. The more you write, the more opportunity you have to get found. The more questions you answer, and the more people you can interact with.
To get started, I recommend writing a minimum of one blog post a week. Ideally, you would create 3-4 posts per week, and maybe even a post a day.
What’s more important, though, is that you write high-quality blog posts. If you don’t get this right, then the quantity won’t matter.
So, what exactly does a ‘perfect blog post’ look like?
Your post should be original and every post needs to have something unique to say.
Let’s consider two approaches to fitness.
One blog post on fitness is an exclusive interview with world-renowned health and fitness motivator Shaun T. His unique approach to training has set social media (and hearts) on fire for several years.
The other is called “5 Exercises for Six Pack Abs” Which will do better?
By the way I stated this question, it may be obvious but for many, it’s not. In fact, many experts will claim that the latter is better.
At a high level, the second headline looks like a goldmine. I mean, who doesn’t want six- pack abs?! This is a very high-volume keyword/keyphrase (people search for it a lot), and it has an appealing list format.
But here’s the issue: most of us have read numerous articles just like it! This is a problem because no one will be that excited by it.
Which article would you be more likely to want to read?
Even if it appears at the top of the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages), the post still needs to get the visitor to click on it because they want to read it!
Next there’s the issue of this content being so competitive. With so many similar articles, how will you ensure yours gets to the top of Google?
The interview, however, is unique content that has a built-in following.
People who love Shaun T are almost guaranteed to like and share this article, especially if you share it on social media and get it in front of them. And people who haven’t heard of him might have their interest piqued and click through to learn more.
Next there are the long-tail keywords.
You might not be able to rank easily for a top keyword with this post, but people will find you when they search for related terms. These include such things as:
- Hip-Hop Abs
- Focus T25 ®
- Beachbody®
- Shaun T interview
These keywords can get you a good number of targeted visitors (visitors that find your content interesting and be likely to buy from you). They can also increase your number of visitors as these terms grow.
Post loads of content like this – long-form and at least 800 words. And make an effort to share it. Promote each article like you would a new product!
Take these steps, and your content will help to gradually increase the traffic to your site. And, at the same time, build your reputation, exposure, and influence.
