Try this Hack to Improve Your WiFi without Paying More
Sort of off-topic, but with the spread of Covid-19 and more people working from home, I thought I’d share some secrets on improving WiFi capabilities at home.
Did you know that most computer devices will use part or a good chunk of your WiFi signal? During those Zoom meetings, if you get the dreaded “unstable Internet,” signal, and can’t track the sound, it may have nothing to do with your Internet signal.
After a lengthy Zoom call the other day, where our Internet signal was not the best, we did an analysis of what devices were using our WiFi. We, meaning Kelli, my wife, and I, as the gopher. We discovered the following devices were using our WiFi:
- My Apple Watch!
- My iPhone
- Her iPhone
- All the Alexa’s in the house (there are four)
- TV’s
- Alarm systems
- Video systems
- Doorbell systems
- Garage Door openers
- My car!
We thought we needed to increase our Wi-Fi and Internet signals.
Nope! We could go onto the Internet Vendor’s website, log into our account, and temporarily block devices when we had a video call or other Internet band hogging need. God forbid I disconnect Alexa, she would not be able to tell me I got a package I received two days prior!
Try this hack to improve wifi without paying more money. You’ll be amazed at the amount of bandwidth you recover for Internet use.
